EFFECT OF MAHOGANY (Swietenia macrophylla King.) SEED OIL ON SERUM GLUCOSE LEVEL AND SOLEUS MUSCLE GLUT 4 ON INSULIN RESISTANCE RATS

A high fat diet and obesity can induce type 2 Diabetes mellitus (DM) with insulin resistance, characterized by the decreasing of insulin interaction to the peripheral target. Swietenia macrophylla King. seed, containing flavonoid and triterpenoid, is reported to show antihyperglycemic activity. This research aimed to know the effect of Swietenia macrophylla King seed oil in glucose level and enhancing of soleus muscle GLUT 4 on insulin resistance diabetic rats. Insulin resistance DM condition was obtained by high fat diet and fructose induction. The diabetic rats were received Swietenia macrophylla King. seed oil dose of 0.2 ml/kg body weight (BW) dan 0.4 ml/kg BW metformin as positive control and CMC Na suspension as negative control. The results showed that Swietenia macrophylla King. seed oil showed antihyperglycemic activity on insulin resistance DM and enhanced the soleus muscle GLUT 4.
